Boone NC
Boone NC is known as the heart of the High Country. With all
of the amenities, rich history, and things to do Boone NC is
definitely a vacation destination for everyone to enjoy.
Enjoy a day at one of the Ski Mountains in the area, ride
the only steam engine locomotive still around in the
Southeast, or go shopping along King Street in historic
downtown Boone while visiting Stone Mountain Farms to find
the perfect Christmas Tree.
Boone NC is famous for its outdoor attractions and
activities such as Grandfather Mountain. Grandfather
Mountain is more than just a picturesque landscape. It has
hiking trails, a mile-high swinging bridge, and even an
animal observation area for visitors to enjoy. The Profile
Trail is a favorite all-day hike for those who are
interested, but as Grandfather Mountain is a Biosphere
Reserve, please be sure to keep all trash with you and
deposit it in the appropriate place. The mile-high swinging
bridge is often the highlight of a vacation since it gives
such amazing mountain range views and is an exhilarating
experience.
Another thing Boone NC is notorious for is Appalachian State
University, a university in the UNC system offering majors
in environmental science, business, education, and
everything in between. Originally begun as a teacher’s
college, Appalachian State has maintained its focus on
teaching students when so many other colleges and
universities have shifted to a research focus. Class sizes,
even for freshmen, are small so that students can receive
individualized attention from their professors. Recently,
Appalachian State University has been recognized for their
back to back NCAA Division 2 National Titles in football.
This attention has brought even more students to this
exceptional university. During your visit to Boone NC, take
time to tour the university, attend a sporting event, see
one of the many student recitals from the nationally
recognized School of Music, or enjoy exploring the halls of
the newly designed and built Turchin Center for the Visual
Arts. Culture, education, and class, Boone NC has it all.
The most recognized area in Boone NC is the downtown area on
King St. King St. is home to local historic shops such as
the Mast General Store and the Boone Drug Store, which take
pride in their longstanding tradition of providing
knowledgeable, friendly service to patrons. Also along King
St. in downtown Boone are numerous other boutique shops,
dining establishments, and even a climbing wall at
Footsloggers, an outdoor equipment store. The Watauga Arts
Council even sponsors Boone’s Concerts on the Lawn with free
concerts on the lawn of the historic Jones House with weekly
performances from local musicians in the heart of Boone’s
downtown. Admission is free and all are welcome.
Contact the Watauga Arts Council at 828-264-1789 for more
information.
Visit Boone NC’s downtown for shopping, dining, and more
while enjoying the High Country and searching for that
perfect tree at Stone Mountain Farms.
